Issue with Media Cloud (Imgix?) serving thumbnails with Imgix instead of full image

  • For some reason Media Cloud keeps serving thumbnails rather than the appropriately sized image:

Which makes the image very blurry

    Screenshot_092819_011602_AM.jpg

When the direct link looks like this

Any idea why the thumbnail is being served?

  • @Tanner-Chung

Seems like a srcset issue maybe? Are you using gutenberg?

  • Gutenberg is turned off and this article is straight from a normal post. Maybe it is the theme.. the other pages are using Elementor and don't have this issue.

  • @Tanner-Chung

I would look at the theme or srcset

  • @jong I think it is the srcset that is causing this issue, but taking the example of a sample where it was the featured image, why would some be using a thumbnail size rather than medium/large/full size?

This is the entire image tag

I'm not sure where or why the srcset would be defining the image as 250x250. This is a featured image so it's not being maniplated anywhere.

  • @Tanner-Chung

Hard to say because I'm not sure what is generating the data-lazy-srcset attribute.

When WordPress generates srcset it uses the dimensions of the source image for the original size requested. So if your image is square, or the size is a cropped square, srcset will contain (should only contain) square images of any size defined in your theme or in WordPress.

Media Cloud does process srcset, but there are toggles to turn that off in the settings (both in Cloud Storage and Imgix settings). Toggle that to on and if you are still having issues it's possibly a bug with Media Cloud.

  • @jong okay then I think it's Media Cloud. We toggled the "disable srcset b/c of gutenberg etc.." option and it stopped generating the thumbnail image! I'm glad we are getting somewhere

  • @jong what do you think? The answer is that when we disable srcset, it is fine. Based on your last reply, it has to do with Media Cloud (I know you're currently busy but just making sure you see it)
